Overview

GPC3 CAR-T cells are an investigational autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by Shenzhen University General Hospital for the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The therapy involves genetically modifying a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that specifically targets Glypican-3 (GPC3), a heparan sulfate proteoglycan that is highly overexpressed in liver cancer cells but has minimal expression in healthy adult tissues. By targeting GPC3, the engineered T cells can selectively recognize and eliminate malignant hepatocytes. This cell therapy is currently being evaluated in clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy in patients with advanced HCC who have progressed after standard treatments.
