GPI-1485 is a small molecule neuroimmunophilin ligand that binds to FK-506-binding proteins (FKBPs). It is non-immunosuppressive and has been shown in preclinical studies to promote neurofunctional improvement, neural regeneration, and protection of nerves from damage. The drug was developed as a potential treatment for neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's disease and for nerve injury-related erectile dysfunction. Mechanistically, it acts by binding FKBPs, which are involved in cellular processes related to nerve repair and regeneration without affecting healthy nerves. Clinical trials have evaluated its efficacy in delaying or stopping disease progression in Parkinson’s disease and preserving erectile function after prostatectomy[2][3][7][9].
