Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GPR119-LW1 (specifically evaluated as the radiolabeled PET tracer [18F]GPR119-LW1) is a novel positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent targeting G protein-coupled receptor 119 (GPR119). GPR119 is predominantly expressed in pancreatic β-cells and plays a key role in glucose-dependent insulin secretion, making it a valuable biomarker for pancreatic dysfunction in diabetes. Developed by researchers at the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University and Emory University, GPR119-LW1 is designed for noninvasive visualization and quantification of pancreatic GPR119 expression. Preclinical studies in healthy and diabetic mouse models (such as db/db and diet-induced obesity mice) demonstrated consistent pancreatic tracer uptake that decreases with progressive pancreatic dysfunction. Preliminary clinical translation in patients with diabetes has supported the feasibility of using [18F]GPR119-LW1 to image pancreatic GPR119 expression in humans, showing a decreasing trend in tracer uptake with increasing disease severity.
