Overview

GPRC5A siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the G-protein coupled receptor class C group 5 member A (GPRC5A), an orphan retinoic acid-induced GPCR. In the context of respiratory research, GPRC5A siRNA is utilized as a laboratory tool to investigate the physiological role of GPRC5A in human airway smooth muscle (ASM) cells. Studies have demonstrated that knockdown of GPRC5A using siRNA leads to increased calcium responses to bronchoconstrictor agonists like histamine, particularly in asthmatic ASM cells. This suggests that GPRC5A normally functions to blunt these responses, identifying it as a potential therapeutic target for asthma and other airway diseases characterized by hyperresponsiveness.
