GPRE refers to ribosomal protein factors extracted from MPC-11 cells using a high KCl procedure. These factors have been studied for their effects on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) blast cells. GPRE has been shown to prevent chromatin condensation and fragmentation of blast cell nuclei, increase the fraction of phagocytosing blast cells, and modulate the expression of surface antigens like CD11b, CD32, CD35, and CD11c. Its effects are thought to be mediated by ribosomal proteins that regulate translation and modulate the subcellular distribution of mRNA species, potentially inhibiting apoptosis.
