Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GPV381 is a recombinant protein vaccine developed by Denteric Pty Ltd, an Australian biotech company, targeting *Porphyromonas gingivalis*, the primary bacterium associated with severe periodontal disease. The vaccine is designed to elicit neutralizing antibodies against *P. gingivalis* virulence factors (such as gingipains) and outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), which are responsible for tissue destruction and immune evasion. Formulated with an alum adjuvant, GPV381 aims to drive a specific TH2 cell immune response to restore homeostasis in the oral microbiome. Beyond its primary indication for periodontal disease, GPV381 is being investigated for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease, based on evidence that *P. gingivalis* can migrate from the oral cavity to the brain and contribute to neurodegenerative pathology through the action of its proteases.
