Overview
GPX1 is an investigational live biotherapeutic product (LBP) developed by TherapyX for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. The candidate is based on the company's proprietary G-Pump™ platform, which utilizes genetically engineered, food-grade *Lactococcus lactis* bacteria to serve as a continuous, site-specific delivery system for therapeutic peptides. In the case of GPX1, the engineered bacteria are designed to express and secrete a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist directly into the intestinal mucosa. This approach aims to overcome the bioavailability and stability challenges associated with oral peptide delivery, potentially providing a more convenient and effective alternative to traditional injectable GLP-1 therapies by leveraging the natural interaction between the gut microbiota and the intestinal lining.
