GPX1-TRF1 modified T cells are an experimental, genetically engineered T-cell therapy in which autologous T lymphocytes are modified to express glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPX1) and telomeric repeat-binding factor 1 (TRF1) to enhance redox control and telomere protection, thereby improving T-cell persistence and function in the oxidative, senescent tumor microenvironment. By augmenting antioxidant capacity through GPX1 and stabilizing telomeres via TRF1, these modified T cells are designed to resist oxidative stress–induced dysfunction, delay senescence, and maintain cytotoxic activity against tumor cells. This construct is a research-stage cell therapy concept for cancer and potentially other diseases characterized by chronic oxidative and replicative stress in T cells.
