Overview

Grafalon is a polyclonal antibody preparation derived from the serum of rabbits immunized with human T-lymphoblasts (Jurkat cell line). It contains high-titre anti-human T-lymphocyte immunoglobulins and is used as an immunosuppressive agent. Grafalon acts by binding to multiple antigens on the surface of human T lymphocytes, leading to their depletion through complement-dependent lysis and apoptosis. This results in profound suppression of cell-mediated immunity. The drug is primarily indicated for: - Prevention and treatment of acute rejection in patients receiving allogeneic solid organ transplants (such as kidney or heart) - Treatment of acute corticosteroid-resistant rejection after transplantation - Prevention of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) following allogeneic stem cell transplantation In some countries, it is also used for treating aplastic anemia in patients unsuitable for bone marrow transplantation[1][2][5][6][7].
