Overview

Grafix is a cryopreserved, human viable wound matrix (hVWM) derived from placental membrane, specifically the amnion. Developed by Osiris Therapeutics and now marketed by Smith & Nephew, it is designed to preserve the native components of the human placental membrane, including the extracellular matrix (ECM), growth factors, and endogenous living cells such as neonatal mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and fibroblasts. It is primarily used for the treatment of chronic wounds, most notably diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) and venous leg ulcers (VLUs). The product acts as a biological scaffold that provides structural support and biochemical signals to promote natural wound healing and tissue regeneration. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Grafix significantly improves the rate of complete wound closure compared to standard of care by providing a high-quality source of living cells directly to the site of the wound.
