Granatin B is a hydrolyzable ellagitannin belonging to the dehydrohexahydroxydiphenoyl (DHHDP) group, primarily isolated from the leaves of *Acer pseudosieboldianum* (Korean flowering maple) and the fruit of *Punica granatum* (pomegranate). It is recognized for its potent chemopreventive and antineoplastic activities, particularly in the context of prostate cancer. The compound functions as an epigenetic modulator by inhibiting the activity of DNA methyltransferases, including DNMT1, DNMT3a, and DNMT3b. This inhibition facilitates the demethylation and subsequent re-expression of silenced genes, such as glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1), which is often hypermethylated during prostate cancer progression. Beyond its epigenetic effects, granatin B exhibits anti-proliferative and apoptosis-promoting properties in various cancer cell lines.
