Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Grape pomace extract + omija fruit extract is a combination of two plant-derived extracts—grape pomace (the residue from winemaking, rich in polyphenols) and omija (Schisandra chinensis) fruit. This combination has been studied primarily as a dietary supplement for its potential metabolic health benefits. Preclinical and clinical studies suggest that the combined extracts may synergistically ameliorate adipogenesis (fat cell formation), hepatic steatosis (fatty liver), dyslipidemia, inflammation, oxidative stress, and hyperglycemia. The mechanism of action is believed to involve antioxidant activity due to high polyphenol content; modulation of lipid metabolism by downregulating lipogenic genes; anti-inflammatory effects via reduction in cytokines such as IL-1β and TNF-α; improvement in insulin sensitivity; enhancement of antioxidant enzyme activities like superoxide dismutase; and regulation of hepatic glucose-regulating enzymes. The product has not been approved as a pharmaceutical drug but is being explored for use in managing obesity-related metabolic disorders[1][2][3][4][5][7][9].
