Overview
Grazax + Fluenz is a combination therapy consisting of a sublingual allergen immunotherapy (Grazax) and a nasal live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV). Grazax, developed by ALK-Abelló, is a standardized extract of Timothy grass (Phleum pratense) pollen indicated for the treatment of grass pollen-induced allergic rhinitis by inducing immunological tolerance. Fluenz, developed by MedImmune (a subsidiary of AstraZeneca), is a nasal spray vaccine containing live-attenuated influenza virus strains. This specific combination is being evaluated by Turku University Hospital in a Phase 3 clinical trial to investigate the synergistic effects of the influenza vaccine as an adjuvant to enhance the tolerogenic T-cell response and modulate interferon expression in the tonsils of patients with allergic rhinitis.
