Decaffeinated green tea leaf extract is a botanical substance derived from *Camellia sinensis*, characterized by a high concentration of polyphenolic catechins, most notably epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). In a clinical program led by Ain Shams University, this extract is being investigated as a therapeutic intervention for prediabetes in obese pediatric patients. The extract is administered as a 300 mg film-coated tablet in combination with metformin. Its mechanism of action involves the reduction of oxidative stress and systemic inflammation through the inhibition of the NF-κB pathway and the modulation of adipokines such as leptin and adiponectin. The primary clinical goal is to improve insulin sensitivity (measured via HOMA-IR) and prevent the progression of prediabetes to type 2 diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents.
