Green tea mouthwash

Green tea mouthwash is an herbal oral rinse formulated from the extract of *Camellia sinensis* leaves, containing bioactive polyphenols such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). In research conducted by Cairo University, it is evaluated for its efficacy in treating plaque-induced gingivitis, particularly in pediatric populations. The mouthwash functions through a multi-targeted mechanism: it exerts antimicrobial effects by inhibiting the growth and adhesion of dental plaque bacteria (e.g., *Streptococcus mutans*), and it provides anti-inflammatory benefits by reducing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that contribute to tissue degradation. It is positioned as a natural, non-staining alternative to traditional chemical agents like chlorhexidine.
