Green tea pressurized hot water extract is a concentrated extract derived from Camellia sinensis (green tea) leaves using a pressurized hot water extraction process. This method yields a product rich in catechins (notably epigallocatechin gallate, epicatechin gallate, epigallocatechin), flavonoids, and other polyphenols, which have demonstrated potent antioxidant activity. In vitro and animal studies indicate GPHWE reduces oxidative stress, improves lipid metabolism, and protects against atherosclerosis, with mechanisms involving scavenging free radicals, regulation of lipid-related targets (such as LOX-1 and HMG-CoA reductase), and modulation of apoptosis and redox pathways, notably Nrf2 and caspase-3. GPHWE has demonstrated efficacy comparable to simvastatin in preclinical models of atherosclerosis and is positioned as a novel, natural preventive remedy for cardiovascular disease.[1]
