Grepid

Grepid is an antiplatelet medication containing clopidogrel besilate, used for the prevention of atherothrombotic events in adults. It functions as a small molecule inhibitor of platelet aggregation by selectively and irreversibly blocking the binding of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to its P2Y12 receptor on the platelet surface. This action prevents the subsequent ADP-mediated activation of the glycoprotein IIb/IIIa complex, thereby inhibiting platelet aggregation. Grepid is a generic version of the reference medicine Plavix and is indicated for patients with a history of recent myocardial infarction, recent ischemic stroke, or established peripheral arterial disease. It was granted marketing authorization in the European Union in 2009, with Pharmathen S.A. as the marketing authorization holder and Innovis Pharma serving as a distributor in markets such as Greece.
