Overview

GRF6019 is a proprietary plasma-derived therapeutic fraction containing approximately 500 plasma proteins, developed as an intravenous treatment for neurodegenerative and age-related diseases, primarily focused on Alzheimer’s disease. Its mechanism is hypothesized to act through multiple biological pathways thought to contribute to aging and neurodegeneration, including reduction of neuroinflammation, enhancement of neurogenesis and synaptic density, and modulation of protein content in plasma. Preclinical studies demonstrated improved cognition, reduced neuroinflammation, increased neuronal activity and synaptic density, and increased neurogenesis in aged mice. In clinical Phase 2 trials involving patients with mild-to-moderate and severe Alzheimer’s disease, GRF6019 was found to be safe and well-tolerated, with maintenance of cognitive and functional status over 6 months and slowed progression of hippocampal atrophy. The active ingredient is a defined plasma protein fraction, not whole plasma. The drug is administered intravenously as repeated infusions. The developer is Alkahest, in collaboration with Grifols[1][2][4][5][6][7][8][12][14].
