Overview

Griffonia simplicifolia extract is a botanical extract derived from the seeds of the *Griffonia simplicifolia* plant, a woody climbing shrub native to West and Central Africa. The extract is highly valued for its high concentration of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), a naturally occurring amino acid that serves as the immediate chemical precursor in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin. By facilitating increased serotonin production in the brain, the extract is widely used as a dietary supplement to address conditions associated with low serotonin levels, such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, and migraine. Additionally, it has been studied for its role in appetite suppression and weight management, as well as potential antimicrobial and antiproliferative activities in preclinical models.
