Grifola frondosa polysaccharide is a biologically active compound derived from the medicinal and edible mushroom *Grifola frondosa* (commonly known as maitake or hen-of-the-woods). The polysaccharides, predominantly beta-glucans, are extracted from the fruiting bodies of the mushroom and may include various purified fractions (e.g., D-fraction, MD-fraction, GFP-A, GFP-4). They are known for *immunomodulatory, antitumor, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory*, and *antiviral* properties. The primary mechanism of action involves modulation of the immune system, including activation and regulation of macrophages, T cells, and natural killer cells, as well as inhibition of myeloid-derived suppressor cells in cancer models. In preclinical and limited clinical studies, grifola frondosa polysaccharides have demonstrated both stimulation and suppression of various immune functions, apoptosis induction in cancer cells, and improvement of metabolic parameters such as blood glucose and lipid profiles. In China, GFP was approved as an adjunctive therapeutic drug for cancer in 2010[1][2][3][6][7].
