Grifola frondosa polysaccharide-protein complex is a biologic drug derived from the maitake mushroom (*Grifola frondosa*), consisting of a protein-bound β-glucan (proteoglucan) complex. Approved by the Chinese State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) in 2010, it is primarily used as an adjunctive therapeutic for cancer treatment, including hepatocellular carcinoma. The drug acts as an immunomodulator by targeting the TLR4-NF-κB signaling pathway, which enhances natural killer (NK) cell activity and stimulates the production of various cytokines such as IFN-γ, IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-2. Beyond its antitumor and immunomodulatory effects, it has demonstrated anti-diabetic, anti-hyperlipidemic, and antiviral activities. It is often used in combination with chemotherapy agents like cyclophosphamide to alleviate immunosuppressive side effects and reduce liver or renal injury.
