Overview

Grippferon is an antiviral and immunomodulatory biologic medication developed by the Russian pharmaceutical company Firn M. Its active ingredient is recombinant human interferon alfa-2b, produced via genetic engineering. The drug is administered intranasally as drops, spray, or ointment. Grippferon works by binding to the interferon alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR) on the surface of cells in the nasal mucosa. This binding activates a signaling cascade that induces an antiviral state, inhibits viral replication, and enhances the local immune response. It is approved in Russia for the prevention and treatment of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) in children and adults, including pregnant women. Research has also demonstrated its inhibitory effects against other respiratory pathogens, including atypical pneumonia (SARS/MERS) and bird flu.
