Overview

GRNCM-1 (also known as AST-CM1) is a cell therapy product composed of human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-derived cardiomyocytes. Originally developed by Geron Corporation and subsequently acquired by Asterias Biotherapeutics (now Lineage Cell Therapeutics), the therapy is intended for the treatment of heart diseases, particularly myocardial infarction and chronic heart failure. The therapeutic approach involves the direct injection of these functional cardiomyocytes into the damaged myocardium to replace lost or necrotic heart muscle cells, thereby improving cardiac contractility and overall heart function. While the project was listed as "Pending" in certain databases, it represents a foundational effort in regenerative medicine for cardiovascular repair.
