Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gross thymic extract (GTE), marketed under the brand name Thymax, is an orally active, porcine-derived biological extract composed of thymosin, thymomodulin, and other heat-resistant peptides prepared at an acidic pH. Developed by YS Nature Company, GTE acts as a biological response modifier with immunomodulatory and potential antineoplastic properties. It has been shown to induce cell cycle arrest (G0/G1 phase) and trigger apoptosis via the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway in various cancer models, including breast cancer and leukemia. Additionally, GTE enhances immune function by activating dendritic cells, promoting Th1-directed T-cell responses, and increasing natural killer (NK) cell cytotoxicity.
