Overview
Group A and C Meningococcal Polysaccharide Conjugate Vaccine is an active immunizing agent designed to prevent infection by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A and C. The vaccine consists of purified capsular polysaccharides from groups A and C, each covalently linked (conjugated) to a carrier protein such as CRM197 or diphtheria toxoid. This conjugation enhances the immune response by inducing T-cell dependent immunity, resulting in higher antibody titers, immune memory, and improved protection compared to plain polysaccharide vaccines[5][8]. The primary indication is the prevention of invasive diseases caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A and C, including meningitis and septicemia. It is recommended for individuals at increased risk due to age (infants, children, adolescents), underlying health conditions, or exposure in endemic areas[2][5]. Menactra (Sanofi) uses diphtheria toxoid as the carrier protein; Menveo (GSK) uses CRM197[1][2].
