Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Olymvax's Group A Streptococcal Vaccine is a recombinant protein-based vaccine candidate currently in preclinical development for the prevention of infections caused by *Streptococcus pyogenes* (Group A Streptococcus). The vaccine is designed to address the significant global health burden of Group A Streptococcal (GAS) diseases, which range from common infections like pharyngitis (strep throat) and impetigo to severe invasive conditions such as necrotizing fasciitis and streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. Furthermore, the vaccine aims to prevent serious post-infectious complications, including acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease. By utilizing recombinant protein technology, Olymvax intends to produce a stable and effective immunogen that can elicit broad protection against various GAS serotypes, potentially overcoming the challenges associated with the high diversity of the bacterial M protein.
