group B streptococcus capsular polysaccharide II conjugated to CRM197 is a monovalent conjugate vaccine component developed by Pfizer. It consists of the capsular polysaccharide (CPS) from Group B Streptococcus (GBS) serotype II covalently linked to CRM197, a non-toxic mutant of the diphtheria toxin. This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigen into a T-cell dependent antigen, thereby enhancing immunogenicity and inducing immunological memory, which is particularly important for protecting infants through maternal immunization. This specific conjugate is one of the six components of Pfizer's hexavalent GBS vaccine candidate, PF-06760805 (GBS6), which targets the most prevalent serotypes causing invasive GBS disease globally. The vaccine is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials for the prevention of invasive GBS disease in neonates and young infants via immunization of pregnant women.
