Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a monovalent conjugate vaccine component consisting of the capsular polysaccharide of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) serotype III covalently linked to the CRM197 carrier protein (a non-toxic recombinant variant of diphtheria toxin). Developed by Pfizer, it is designed to elicit a protective immune response against *Streptococcus agalactiae* serotype III infections, which are a leading cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis. The conjugation to CRM197 converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigen into a T-cell dependent antigen, enhancing immunogenicity and inducing immunological memory, particularly in infants and through maternal immunization. It is currently a constituent of Pfizer's hexavalent GBS vaccine candidate (GBS6).
