The Group B Streptococcus Trivalent Vaccine is an investigational maternal vaccine designed to prevent invasive disease caused by Group B Streptococcus (GBS), particularly in neonates and young infants. The vaccine consists of capsular polysaccharides from three GBS serotypes (Ia, Ib, and III) conjugated to the carrier protein CRM197. Its mechanism of action involves inducing anti-capsular antibodies that mediate opsonophagocytic killing of GBS bacteria, thereby preventing colonization and transmission from mother to infant. Clinical studies have shown that vaccination elicits robust immune responses in pregnant women, with efficient transplacental transfer of protective IgG antibodies to newborns[1][4][5]. The primary indication is for maternal immunization during pregnancy to protect infants against early- and late-onset GBS disease.
