Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Group B-Sun Yat-sen University-type 2 diabetes mellitus refers to the standard-of-care treatment arm in a Phase 3 clinical trial (NCT06165458) sponsored by Sun Yat-sen University for patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus. This regimen follows a stepwise intensification protocol, beginning with metformin monotherapy (or linagliptin if metformin is contraindicated). If glycemic targets are not achieved, the protocol dictates the sequential addition of the SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin, followed by the GLP-1 receptor agonist semaglutide, and finally basal insulin therapy. This arm serves as the active comparator to evaluate the efficacy of traditional sequential therapy against early intensive triple combination therapy in achieving diabetes remission and improving beta-cell function.
