Overview
Growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) combined with arginine is a diagnostic test used to evaluate growth hormone (GH) secretion and function. This combination works synergistically to stimulate the release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. Arginine suppresses somatostatin (the endogenous inhibitory regulator of GH) and induces GHRH release, while GHRH directly stimulates the pituitary to secrete GH. The combined administration produces a significantly greater GH response than either component alone, making it valuable for diagnosing growth hormone deficiency and evaluating pituitary function.
