Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Growtropin-II is a recombinant human growth hormone (somatropin) product developed by Dong-A ST as a biosimilar/“branded generic” of Genotropin for subcutaneous administration in pediatric patients with growth disorders, including short stature in children born small for gestational age, idiopathic short stature, Turner syndrome, and other growth hormone–deficient states.[1][4][8] As a 191–amino acid recombinant protein identical to endogenous human growth hormone, it binds to and activates the growth hormone receptor in target tissues such as liver and cartilage, stimulating JAK2–STAT signaling, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) production, and downstream anabolic effects on linear growth and metabolism.[1][4][5] Phase III trials in Korean children have shown that Growtropin-II is non-inferior to Genotropin in improving annual height velocity and height SDS over 1 year, with a comparable safety profile, and it has been approved in South Korea for indications including dwarfism and idiopathic short stature, with room-temperature–stable cartridge and liquid injection presentations for long-term outpatient use.[1][4][6][8][9]
