GRT-R914 is a self-amplifying mRNA (samRNA) vaccine candidate developed by Gritstone bio for the prevention of COVID-19. Part of the CORAL program, it is designed to elicit broad and durable immune responses by delivering both the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (specifically from the Beta variant) and highly conserved T cell epitopes (TCE). The samRNA technology allows for lower dosing compared to conventional mRNA vaccines by enabling the vaccine to replicate itself within the host cells, potentially enhancing the magnitude and duration of the immune response. Clinical data from Phase 1 studies indicate that GRT-R914 is well-tolerated and capable of inducing or boosting neutralizing antibodies against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants, including Beta and Delta.
