Overview
GRT-R918 is a self-amplifying mRNA (samRNA) vaccine developed by Gritstone bio for the prevention of COVID-19, specifically targeting the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2. It encodes the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 and is designed to induce both humoral and cellular immune responses by presenting viral antigens to the immune system. The vaccine has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in adults who were either previously vaccinated or vaccine-naïve. Results indicate that it induces durable neutralizing antibody responses against multiple variants (including Beta, Delta, and Omicron) as well as broad T cell responses against spike and non-spike epitopes[1][4][6]. Its primary indication is for COVID-19; it has also been investigated for HIV infections[1].
