Overview

GRT7041 is a small molecule analgesic being developed by Grünenthal GmbH for the treatment of pain. It functions as a selective agonist of the nociceptin/orphanin FQ peptide (NOP) receptor, also known as the opioid receptor-like 1 (ORL1) receptor. Unlike traditional opioid analgesics that primarily target the mu-opioid receptor (MOP), NOP receptor agonists are designed to provide potent pain relief with a potentially improved safety profile, specifically aiming to reduce the risks of respiratory depression and physical dependence. GRT7041 is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation in healthy volunteers to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics through single and multiple ascending dose studies.
