Overview

GS 0573 is an experimental small molecule antiviral compound belonging to the class of organic compounds known as 6-aminopurines. Its chemical formula is C8H13N6O4P and it has a molecular weight of approximately 288.20 g/mol. The compound has been studied primarily for its potential use in the treatment of Feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1), a significant pathogen in cats[1][4][8]. The mechanism of action is not fully elucidated but, as a purine analogue with phosphonate modification, it likely acts by inhibiting viral DNA polymerase or interfering with viral replication pathways similar to other nucleoside/nucleotide analogues[4]. It is not approved for human use and remains at the research stage.
