Overview

GS-1179 is a long-acting HIV-1 capsid inhibitor currently in Phase 1 clinical development by Gilead Sciences for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. As a next-generation capsid inhibitor, it targets the HIV-1 capsid protein (p24), interfering with multiple essential steps in the viral replication cycle, including capsid-mediated nuclear import of viral DNA, viral assembly and release, and capsid core maturation. This multi-stage inhibition provides potent antiviral activity and is designed to have a high genetic barrier to resistance. GS-1179 is being evaluated for its potential as a long-acting therapeutic agent, which could significantly reduce the frequency of dosing and improve treatment adherence for individuals living with HIV-1.
