Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GS-1966 is an experimental therapeutic HIV-1 vaccine candidate developed by Gritstone Bio in collaboration with Gilead Sciences. It is based on a chimpanzee adenovirus (ChAd) vector that encodes a novel conserved HIV-1 immunogen spanning the Gag, Pol, and Nef proteins. GS-1966 is designed to be administered in a heterologous prime-boost regimen with GS-1144, a self-amplifying mRNA (samRNA) vaccine packaged in lipid nanoparticles, to elicit robust and polyfunctional HIV-specific T-cell responses (particularly CD8+ T cells) to target and destroy HIV-infected cells. The vaccine regimen is being evaluated in phase Ib clinical trials for the treatment and potential cure of HIV-1 infection in virally suppressed adults on antiretroviral therapy (ART).
