Overview

GS-2829 is an investigational, nonreplicating arenaviral vector therapeutic vaccine based on the Pichinde virus (PICV). Developed by Gilead Sciences in collaboration with HOOKIPA Pharma, it is designed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB). The vaccine encodes three highly conserved hepatitis B virus (HBV) antigens: core, surface antigen (HBsAg), and polymerase. GS-2829 is utilized in a heterologous prime-boost immunization strategy in combination with GS-6779 (a lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus-based vector). This approach aims to induce robust HBV-specific CD8+ T cell responses and high anti-HBs antibody titers to achieve a functional cure for HBV. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity.
