GS-2829 + GS-6779 (also known as HB-400) is an investigational therapeutic vaccine combination being developed by Gilead Sciences, in collaboration with HOOKIPA Pharma, for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB). The combination utilizes HOOKIPA's proprietary arenaviral vector platform, consisting of two non-replicating vectors: GS-2829 (based on Pichinde virus, PICV) and GS-6779 (based on lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus, LCMV). This heterologous alternating immunization strategy is designed to overcome vector-specific immunity and induce robust, polyfunctional CD8+ T cell responses against hepatitis B virus (HBV) antigens, including core, surface antigen (HBsAg), and polymerase. The goal of the therapy is to achieve a functional cure for CHB by restoring the immune system's ability to control the virus, potentially eliminating the need for lifelong antiviral therapy. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials.
