GS-3107 is a long-acting oral small molecule HIV capsid inhibitor currently in Phase 1 clinical development by Gilead Sciences, potentially in collaboration with Medivir. It belongs to a novel class of antiretrovirals that target the HIV-1 capsid protein (CA), a multi-functional protein essential for viral replication. Unlike traditional antiretrovirals that target viral enzymes, capsid inhibitors interfere with multiple stages of the viral life cycle, including capsid-mediated nuclear import of viral DNA, viral assembly and release, and the formation of the mature capsid core.
