Overview

GS-441524 is a nucleoside analogue antiviral drug developed by Gilead Sciences. It functions as the main plasma metabolite of the antiviral prodrug remdesivir, with a half-life of approximately 24 hours in humans. The drug works by undergoing intracellular triple-phosphorylation to yield its active form, which disrupts viral RNA replication by competing with endogenous NTPs and triggering delayed chain termination of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. GS-441524 has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in treating feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a previously fatal disease in cats, and has also been investigated for potential use against Ebola and SARS-CoV-2 infections.
