GS-8588 is an investigational bispecific T-cell engager (BiTE) being developed by Gilead Sciences for the treatment and potential cure of HIV-1 infection. The molecule is engineered to facilitate the targeted destruction of HIV-infected cells by simultaneously binding to the HIV envelope protein gp120 on the surface of infected cells and the CD3 receptor on cytotoxic T cells. This dual binding mechanism forms an immunological synapse, recruiting and activating T cells to lyse the infected cells, including those within the viral reservoir. GS-8588 has demonstrated potent, broad, and specific killing of CD4 T cells infected with diverse HIV clinical isolates in preclinical studies and is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation to assess its safety and efficacy in achieving viral remission.
