Overview

GS1590 is a **polyunsaturated side-chain analogue of vitamin D3**, classified as a small molecule drug. It functions primarily as a **brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) agonist** and **nerve growth factor (NGF) stimulant**, with neuro-stimulant properties. In research, GS1590 has demonstrated suppression of **parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion** and reduction of PTH mRNA levels in parathyroid cells, suggesting utility in treatment or prevention of secondary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) in chronic renal failure, as well as possible utility in nervous system diseases. The analogue was originally developed by Cephalon and later investigated by LEO Pharma[1][13][16].
