GS24-B039 is a novel dimeric prodrug of abiraterone developed by Changchun GeneScience Pharmaceutical for the treatment of prostate cancer. It is designed as a long-acting injectable formulation for intramuscular administration every three months. The drug acts as a sustained-release reservoir that is converted in vivo into abiraterone, a potent and selective inhibitor of the enzyme CYP17A1 (17α-hydroxylase/C17,20-lyase). By blocking this enzyme, GS24-B039 inhibits the synthesis of androgens in the testes, adrenal glands, and prostate tumor tissues, leading to a significant reduction in testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels. Preclinical studies indicate that GS24-B039 provides more stable drug concentrations and higher bioavailability compared to oral abiraterone acetate and other long-acting prodrugs like abiraterone decanoate, potentially improving patient compliance and therapeutic efficacy.
