Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GSK's 4-component Group A Streptococcus vaccine with alum is an investigational protein-based vaccine designed to prevent infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Strep). The vaccine formulation consists of four synthetic peptide components targeting specific Strep A antigens, combined with aluminum hydroxide (alum) as an adjuvant to enhance the immune response. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial to assess safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity in healthy young adults. The vaccine aims to generate protective antibodies against the pathogen to prevent conditions ranging from pharyngitis to severe invasive diseases and post-streptococcal complications like rheumatic heart disease.
