GSK adjuvanted trivalent influenza vaccine

The GSK adjuvanted trivalent influenza vaccine (TIV/AS03) is an investigational inactivated split-virion vaccine developed by GSK for the prevention of seasonal influenza. It is specifically designed for older adults (aged 65 and older) to address age-related immunosenescence, which often reduces the effectiveness of standard vaccines. The vaccine contains 15 µg of hemagglutinin (HA) from each of three seasonal influenza strains (typically two A strains and one B strain), totaling 45 µg of HA per dose. It is formulated with the AS03 adjuvant system, an oil-in-water emulsion composed of α-tocopherol, squalene, and polysorbate-80, which enhances the magnitude and breadth of the immune response. In Phase II clinical trials, the vaccine has been evaluated for safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity compared to non-adjuvanted vaccines like Fluarix.
