GSK046 is a small molecule inhibitor of the Bromodomain and Extra-Terminal motif (BET) family of proteins, including BRD2, BRD3, and BRD4. Developed by GSK, it acts as an epigenetic modulator by competitively binding to the acetyl-lysine recognition site (bromodomain) of these proteins. This prevents the recruitment of BET proteins to chromatin, thereby suppressing the expression of various genes involved in inflammation and cell cycle progression. GSK046 has been investigated in preclinical models for its ability to protect pancreatic β-cells from inflammatory damage and metabolic stress, indicating potential therapeutic utility in Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, and neurodegenerative conditions like Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease.
