Overview

GSK1492903A is a recombinant subunit vaccine candidate developed by GSK for the prevention of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. The vaccine consists of a chimeric protein in which CMV glycoprotein B (gB) sequences are fused to a herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) glycoprotein D (gD) sequence to enhance expression and facilitate purification. Produced in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells, the antigen is formulated with GSK's proprietary AS01 adjuvant system. It is designed to elicit robust neutralizing antibody responses against CMV gB, a key envelope glycoprotein involved in viral entry and a major target for the immune system. Clinical evaluation has included a Phase 1 first-time-in-humans study assessing safety and immunogenicity in healthy CMV-seronegative adults.
