GSK217744 is an investigational hexavalent vaccine developed by GSK, representing a new formulation of the licensed DTPa-HBV-IPV/Hib vaccine (Infanrix hexa). It is designed for the active immunization of infants and toddlers against six major infectious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, and invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b. The vaccine contains diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, acellular pertussis antigens (pertussis toxoid, filamentous hemagglutinin, and pertactin), recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen, inactivated poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3, and Hib capsular polysaccharide conjugated to tetanus toxoid. Clinical development has focused on assessing its safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity as a booster dose in toddlers who previously received a primary vaccination series.
